How it works — examples & FAQ

Building a beacon pyramid

A beacon sits on top of a pyramid built from iron, gold, emerald, diamond or netherite blocks. Each tier is a solid square, and the more tiers you build, the more powers and the greater the range you unlock.

Blocks per tier

  • Tier 1: 3×3 = 9 blocks
  • Tier 2: 5×5 = 25 blocks
  • Tier 3: 7×7 = 49 blocks
  • Tier 4: 9×9 = 81 blocks

A full four-tier beacon therefore needs 164 blocks (9 + 25 + 49 + 81) and reaches 50 blocks in every direction.

FAQ

What’s the effect range?

Range grows with tiers: 20 blocks at one tier, then +10 per tier up to 50 blocks at four tiers. A four-tier beacon also lets you apply a second (secondary) effect or upgrade the primary to level II.
