Minecraft colour & format codes
Minecraft styles text with a § (section) sign followed by a single character — a colour (0–9, a–f) or a format (bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, magic). Most tools and config files let you type & instead, which is easier to reach on a keyboard.
Where to use them
- server.properties MOTD and server list description
- signs, books and item names in many plugins
- kit, rank and chat plugins (Essentials, LuckPerms…)
Use Copy with & for plugins and config files, and Copy with § where the raw section sign is required. A &r resets colour and formatting back to normal.
FAQ
What is the “magic” code?
&kis obfuscated text — the characters scramble rapidly in-game. It’s shown here as plain text in the preview since it can’t be animated reliably.
